The Palanga Amber Museum, which belongs to the Lithuanian Art Museum, was founded on 3 August 1963 in the mansion of Count Feliks Tiškevičius. Located in a magnificent palace in the very centre of Birutė Park, the museum is one of the most visited in the country. The museum has one of the world's richest collections of amber inclusions and uniquenesses, with a total of more than 30,000 exhibits.
The palace spaces on the ground floor enchant visitors with the renovated historic interiors of the palace, which tell the story of the life of the Tiškevičius counts in this palace. The authentically furnished spaces are presented to visitors interested in the history of Palanga and the Tiškevičius Counts: the Lobby, the Event Hall, the Red Salon, the Grand Salon, the Countess's Cabinet, the Blue Salon, the Young Count's Cabinet and the Small Salon.
These representative halls of the palace recreate the environment of the aristocrats' residence, exhibiting works from the interiors of the palace of the nobility from the late eighteenth and early twentieth centuries, from the preserved collections of the Counts of Tiškevičius, other Lithuanian noblemen's palaces, and from private collections. The author of the interiors exhibition is Romualdas Budrys.
The second floor presents a unique amber exhibition, which introduces the formation of amber, trade routes, extraction and processing. After the renovation in 2015, it has been enriched with archaeological artefacts and the collection of inclusions has been renewed. Visitors can see a completely new exposition of amber morphology. On the first floor, the Chapel Exhibition Hall invites visitors to temporary exhibitions.
